Yes, the tummy tuck procedure does always create a scar. This is so we can remove the large piece of skin and fat from your midsection. The scar is placed low in the bikini or boxer line, however, and is usually covered by underwear. Our Scar Reduction Program also works to minimize the appearance of the scar.

After the procedure you should plan on moving around your house and doing light normal activities. You will not be placed on any period of "bed rest."Most people return to work within about ten to fourteen days. Exercise will be limited during the first few weeks following the procedure, but your plastic surgeon will work with you to describe which sorts of exercises you can do during the various phases of your recovery. You should not do any heavy lifting of more than about ten pounds for six weeks.

Usually not. When we do tummy tucks at our Los Angeles facility, we place a long-acting local anesthetic directly where we work during the surgery. This helps to minimize discomfort and is part of our successful Minimal Pain Program.

Can a tummy tuck be combined with liposuction?

Sometimes. We often do liposuction of the thighs or other areas during a tummy tuck. We do not do liposuction of the abdomen itself during a tummy tuck because this would interfere with wound healing and is usually not necessary because we are creating a very good contour in this area with the tummy tuck procedure. Can I have work done on my breasts done at the same time as a tummy tuck?

Yes, we often combine a tummy tuck with a breast lift or augmentation. This is what we call the Rodeo Drive Mommy Makeover and works to create a dramatic change in body appearance.

Can I have liposuction instead of a tummy tuck?

It depends on the shape and condition of your abdomen. If you have tight skin and a moderate amount of fat, liposuction might provide a good result. If you have hanging or loose skin or stretch marks, you will probably have a better result from a tummy tuck.
